In the summer of 2017, I had the exciting opportunity to study in Guadalajara as a part of PEPE (Programa de Español Para Extranjeros). This program not only gave me intense, immersive Spanish training, it also focused on learning and experiencing Mexican and indigenous culture. I was partnered with three different students attending the University of Guadalajara and we participated in many activities, workshops, and excursions all while practicing Spanish. I built a family of friends from the people I met during my stay and we keep in touch through social media and Whatsapp. The language and cultural experiences I gained from the program have equipped me with tools that will help me be as effective as I can when serving in the Peace Corps.
